1841 Philadelphia

This is a fine example of Thomas Bradford's map of Philadelphia with portions of Passyunk, Southwark, West Philadelphia, and Kensington. The map was published in the 1841 edition of "A New Atlas of the World," by C.D. Strong.   This lithograph map shows the city of Philadelphia and surrounding areas color coded by ward with all principal streets and railroads delineated and named, important buildings, piers, and town squares rendered in fine detail. Independence square and hall is noted, as well as Pennsylvania College, Girard College, the navy yard, the state penitentiary,  U.S. Naval Asylum, a deaf and dumb institution, hospitals and schools.
