Novi Belgii Quod nunc Novi Jorck, vocatur Nova qe Angliae & Partis Virginiae Accuratissima et Novissima Delineatio. This remarkable antique map was engraved by John Ogilby, and published in 1671 by Arnoldus Montanus. It is based, as were many other maps, on the iconographic work by Jansson-Visscher, which was the most influential map of the region for more than 40 years. Lovely renderings of local fauna from the Jansson-Visscher map decorate open spaces, including illustrations of various fauna indigenous to the Americas, including bears, deer, a fox, beaver, a crane, a muskrat, rabbits and a turkey. The lower right quadrant is embellished with an ornate cartouche illustrating indigenous peoples engaged in the various tasks of everyday life such as hunting, fishing, skinning of game, bundling of furs and firing of clay.
