This magnificent copper engraved map by Brue features western Africa starting from twenty four degrees North and extending to two degrees South. The map includes numerous annotations describing the areas depicted in some detail, including assumptions made regarding geography, and some crediting the various sources consulted by Brue in creating his map. Political boundaries, towns, villages, roads, etc., are rendered, and relief is shown by hachure. An inset map in the region of the Sahara features the western drainage of the Senegal River system, including its tributaries on the Atlantic coast. The engraving is highly detailed in every aspect, is printed on heavy paper with wide margins, and includes the raised French royal seal, a script title and keyboard border. It features lovely original outline coloring, along with a color-coded key for identifying the countries under whose sway various territories were at the time.
