This lovely antique image of a wealthy Chicago neighborhood, in the late 1800's, is typical for the South Side. Michigan Avenue was the home of stately mansions, wide paved streets with street lights, used sparingly for horse-drawn carriages. This was precisely one year before the first automobile was invented. A French description is beneath this photo, while on the verso is a photo of the "Place d' Armes, Montreal, Canada.
