Stuart had been the manager of Vasart Glass and continued as manager when that company became Strathearn Glass. He left Strathearn in 1968 to form a new glassworks which would only make high-quality paperweights. Stuart took with him John Deacons, Jack Allan and Peter McDougall from Strathearn Glass.
