LARGE antique Japanese Imari / Arita ware covered jar, depicting dancers with fans, c. 1860 1880, beautifully and brightly colored, covered in decoration, 17” T x 8” in diameter, without flaw, $695, with hand written label from C. A. Campbell & Co., of 167 Tremont Street, Boston, reading “Rose jar / made by KoRanSha of Imari / decorated with dancing girls of Japan / this jar made for a tea caddy between 75 – 150 years ago.” Though the dating appears entirely inaccurate on this label, C. A. Campbell & Co. was a purveyor of luxury goods that I can only find reference to through their advertisements in Boston Symphony Orchestra programs of the late 1880s and early 1890s. Campbell appears to have disappeared before 1900. 22SU_102
