Gotiti - Ethiopia
Ethiopia’s Yirgacheffe region is one of the best known coffee producing regions in the world. Like the rest of Ethiopia, it’s divided into several districts and communities with washing stations throughout, each offering a unique representation of the soil, climate, and farming practices, and their affects on the coffee. In the Gotiti community, nearly a thousand farmers transport their coffee via mule or on foot to local washing station for processing, where, annually, a total volume of 500–600 tons of green coffee is meticulously washed, pulped, fermented, and bagged for sale. The Gotiti live in a village in a lush forest where indigenous coffee varieties grow. These indigenous varieties, when properly cared for, are responsible for producing some of the most exceptional coffees in the world, known for their complexity and elegance.
