This educational poster provides an "at a glance" visual lesson to read a food label and make a healthy plate for patients. Teaches how to read a food label: Be concerned with carbs - where are they listed on the food label? Fiber is recommended on this food label; better still, a great example given is dried beans, which are a great high-fiber choice for persons with diabetes. Sources of carbs are summarized to make it easy to learn. Shows what a 'one carb' serving is: 1 fruit, 1 piece of bread, 1/3 cup grains. Well, it is all about my meal! But best of all, here is a delicious, colorful, healthy plate for persons with dia-betes. Use 1/2 nonstarchy vegetables, lean protein and a meausured whole grain. Plus add skim milk and a little fruit or salsa.
