Have you ever heard someone say, "when pigs fly" and wonder what on earth that means? Or how about someone telling you "you're barking up the wrong tree" but not only are you unable to bark but if you could, why would you do it up a tree? These are two examples of common sayings which are known as idioms. An idiom is a widely used saying or expression that contains a figurative meaning which is different than from the phrase's literal meaning.   This book is filled with idioms.
