There's an unapologetic drama to Adolf Hirémy-Hirschl's mythological paintings. Here, clawed at by the newly dead, the Greek god Hermes leads lost souls to the banks of the Archeron river, where they must take Charon's ferry into Hades. It's worth mentioning that the original is over 11ft long and 7 ft tall—so if you pick up a print, I recommend the biggest one.
