Dakota Lithium Ultra Fast 48V 15A LiFePO4 Battery Charger
Dakota Lithium Ultra Fast 48V 15A LiFePO4 Battery Charger Description This firehose of power is optimized to charge large 48V (volt) batteries FAST while ensuring a long battery lifespan. Designed for use by our Team Dakota Lithium pro staff who need to charge quickly between tournaments, this 15A (amp) charger will charge a 48V 50Ah battery in 3 hours, and a 100Ah battery bank in <6.5 hours. Dakota Lithium has optimized this charger for use with our lithium iron phosphate batteries (LiFePO4 or LFP). Not recommended for charging lead acid or SLA batteries, it is too powerful. Built in a high tensile aluminum case for rapid cooling, this 48V charger is rated at 15A and is an upgrade for those of you who need to charge fast and play hard. All Dakota Lithium batteries should be charged using a LiFePO4 compatible charger like this one. SLA chargers will reduce the performance and lifespan of the battery. Included Anderson plug with ring terminals for safe & easy charging. Simply plug the charger into the Anderson plug, and remove when done. Also compatible with all Connect-Ease trolling motor wiring kits (add on). Features Charging 48 Volt batteries fast Charges a 48V 15Ah battery in an hour Optimal for Larger 48V batteries LiFePO4 Compatible Charger Lithium Titinate Oxide (LTO) Battery Charger Lithium-Ion battery charger Product Specification Specifications For 48 volt lithium batteries We highly recommend you use a LiFePO4 compatible charger. 48v chargers for lead acid batteries may work, but will decrease performance and lifespan of the battery. Charger rating INPUT 100-240 volts, 50/60HZ. OUTPUT: 57.6 volts, 15.0 amps Terminal Connections Anderson SB 50 connections make it easy to connect your charger to the battery. Install the ring terminals using the bolts on your terminals. Bolt black to your black terminal. Red to your red terminal. Do not short circuit. Then connect the charger via the Anderson plug when you need to charge. Red light on the charger will turn on when charging. Light turns green when the battery is full. Smart BMS communication Charger will restart or "wake up" a Dakota Lithium BMS that has turned off a battery due to short circuit or excessive amp draw. Simply connect the charger to the battery to initiate a restart. How fast will my battery charge? Charges at a rate of 15 amps. To determine your charging speed take the amp hour rating of your battery and divide by 15. For example, a 48v 50 amp hour battery (Ah) would charge in 3.5 hours. Can I charge my battery faster? For most applications a charging time of 3 - 10 hours provides the longest lifespan for your battery. But if you have an application where you need rapid charging Dakota Lithium batteries can be safely charged in up to 1 hour (at a rate of 1C). For example, you could use a 15 amp 48V charger with a 15 Ah 48V battery for a 1 hour charge time. Charging at a 1 hour rate does reduce the lifespan over time. In our laboratory testing we found that the longest lifespan for Dakota Lithium batteries was at a charging speed of 0.3C or less (we recommend that the charger amp rating is 1/3 or less of the battery amp hour rating for longest lifespan). What voltage should LiFePO4 batteries be charged at? 57.6 volts is recommended for 48v Dakota Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries. This charger charges at 57.6 volts. FAQs Twice the Power? Yes! Here at Dakota Lithium we build all of our batteries with lithium iron phosphate technology which has many distinct advantages over traditional batteries. Including 60% less weight, a charging speed that is up to 5X faster, and a significantly longer lifespan (5-10 years longer on average). One of the most noticeable advantages however is the flat voltage curve. Unlike a lead acid battery where the voltage drops as you use the battery a Dakota Lithium battery has a steady voltage for 99% of the battery's charge. That means you get all the power down to the last drop and double the usable power of traditional batteries. Are Lithium Batteries Safe? Dakota Lithium batteries are 100% safe & reliable. Our signature chemistry, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4), does not contain rare earth elements (like Cobalt) or heavy metals, is non-toxic, including no lead or acid, is non-corrosive, does not off gas, requires no watering or maintenance, can be placed in any orientation, and unlike other lithium batteries will not explode or catch fire. In addition, each Dakota Lithium battery is protected from over heating, over charging, and short circuiting, by a battery management system (BMS) microchip that also extends the lifespan and is contained in a rugged, waterproof case (although enough water can conduct electricity between the terminals, so don't submerse the battery). For best performance & reliability we recommend using a LiFePO4 charger. How do I charge a lithium battery? Dakota Lithium batteries perform best when charged by a lithium compatible charger. Lead acid or SLA chargers, on-board chargers for AGM batteries, or other non-lithium chargers will charge a Dakota Lithium battery but only to 70-80% of capacity. This is because Dakota Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) technology charges and is full at a higher voltage then traditional batteries (Dakota Lithium charges at 14.4 Volts). Chargers with a lithium battery setting or designed for lithium will charge at the appropriate voltage. See our full catalog of LiFePO4 battery chargers here. All batteries 54Ah and larger include a free LiFePO4 compatible charger. For troubleshooting tips download the Dakota Lithium battery user manual here. Will cold weather affect my battery? Your Dakota Lithium battery will discharge normally between a range of -20F and 120F (-29C to 49C). DL batteries are commonly used among ice fishers for their flashers and ice augers, so they are quite resilient and are frequently used in cold climates. In cases of extreme cold however, it is recommended that the batteries be insulated. We also do not recommend charging our batteries below freezing temperatures. If you are planning to regularly charge your battery below freezing temperatures we recommend the DL+ 12V 135Ah battery which has an internal heating element and is optimal for use in cars, trucks, RVs, off grid solar, and any application where the battery will be charged regularly in extremely cold environments (like a North Dakota winter). The industry standard house battery size used in most RVs, Campers, and #VanLife builds is the DL 100Ah battery. This is a drop in replacement for AGM and most lead acid batteries. If you are charging off your engine's alternator we recommend a Victron DC-DC smart charger. If charging off solar panels we recommend a Victron Smart Solar charge controller, or if you have a solar charge controller choose the lithium setting. A handy size chart for number of batteries needed by size of RV is available here. Q&A What Charger Do I Need for My Lithium Battery? All Dakota Lithium batteries should be charged using a LiFePO4 compatible charger like any in this collection. SLA or lead acid chargers will reduce the performance and lifespan of the battery. Specifically lead battery chargers use a lower voltage that will only fill 80% of a lithium battery, while also stressing the lithium chemistry. Lithium chargers charge at a higher voltage, and are programmed to optimize the lithium chemistry for a longer life. Lithium chargers also allow for a charging time that is 5X faster then lead acid, as fast as a 1 hr charge time (1C). When choosing a lithium charger look for one that is the same voltage as your battery (12V for 12V batteries, 36V for 36V batteries, etc.) and decide how fast you want to charge your battery. The higher the amp rating (A) of the charger, the faster your battery will charge*. To determine the charge time divide the amp hour (Ah) rating of the battery by the amp (A) rating of the charger. For example, a 3 amp charger would charge a 10Ah battery in 3.3 hours (10 Ah / 3 Amps = 3.3 hrs). *Please note for safety the amp rating should not exceed the amp hour rating of the battery, for example using a 10A charger with a 7 Ah battery would damage the battery.
