Copal | Incense

Our Copal Incense is handmade by artisans in the Mexican Sierra Madre mountains. Copal is a resin from sacred copal trees that can be crushed and made into incense. These trees are found in tropical forests in Mexico and Central America. Copal's scent is very woody, frankincense forward, and slightly hypnotic, with warm, almost citrus notes. It is believed that its magical qualities aid with the process of opening to the soul to intuition and inspiration. It is said to be food ancestral spirits, and a way of saying thank you. Copal has been used as a method of divination throughout history. In some areas, shamans would burn copal incense and interpret the smoke. In others, shamans would cast grains of maize after holding them in the smoke and chanting.  Comes in a bundle of 6 sticks
