Stoneware, thrown with hand built components, sgraffito, slips and underglazes, glazed, electric fired in oxidation to cone 63.5” x 4”2024 With my background as both an architect and artist, I bring to my work a deep appreciation for animals and nature, especially the flora and fauna of my New Orleans backyard and the Southern region. Clay provides the ideal medium for my exploration, allowing me to merge fluid, sculptural forms with layered applications of slips and underglazes in a painterly expression. Composition and function are central to my process: how each part relates, reinforces, and contributes to the whole. In my series of squirrel mugs, I studied the skeletal and muscular structures of squirrels, their range of motion, and how the clay medium could capture their movement, their daily lives, and their natural environment.
