Frequently mistaken for a brass instrument, the saxophone is part of the woodwind family dating back to the 1800s. Categorizing it as brass is an easy mistake considering the material it's made from! The sound is produced via a reed. Aside from it's popularity in the marching band setting, the saxophone is best known for it's association with the jazz music scene. Marching bands have a long standing history steeped in tradition.
