Old Sturbridge Village Commemorative Guide

Founded in 1946, Old Sturbridge Village (OSV) is one of the oldest and largest living history museums in the country, portraying life in a rural New England town of the 1830s. The Village has 60 original buildings, each carefully researched, restored, and brought to the museum site from towns throughout New England. These include homes, meeting houses, a district school, country store, bank, law office, printing office, carding mill, gristmill, pottery, blacksmith shop, shoe shop, cooper shop, and an accurately reproduced sawmill. OSV also has several gardens with heirloom flowers and plants and a working farm with heritage breed animals. Authentically costumed historians, called interpreters, carry out the daily activities of an early 19th-cenutry community, and visitors can see farm women cooking at the hearth as well as the printer, potter, cooper, tinner, blacksmith, and shoemaker at work.
