Old Dominion
King Charles II gave the title “Old Dominion” to Virginia sometime in the 1660s ’cause he loved the loyalists there. But you know, those men of sturdy yeoman stock over in the hardscrabble hollers of the west decided to take that name, then take that state, then the whole damn country away from the crown. That’s what I love about the Dominion: from the fellows near heights of Mt. Rogers to the landed gentry near the Capitol, they all love their state and their history and their home with the kind of love usually just reserved for their Mommas.
