Apollo 13 launched from the Kennedy Space Center on April 11, 1970. It was supposed to be the third mission to land men on the moon. However, two days into the mission, an oxygen module in the command module failed, cancelling the moon landing and putting the astronauts lives in danger. Using the lunar module as a temporary lifeboat, the crew was able to return safely to Earth on April 17, 1970.
