The Big 8 Conference was a college athletic conference formed in 1907 as the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association and included the University of Kansas, University of Missouri, University of Nebraska, Washington University in St. Louis. Additionally, and University of Iowa. Membership grew to 10, but in 1928, it became unofficially known as The Big 6 as half a dozen of the conference's members left to form a new conference. More teams were added, and the name changed to the Big 7 and then finally The Big 8. The conference dissolved in 1996, as most of it's member schools joined the Big 12. OS15660
