Whether it be the rugged loggers from camps in the Maine Woods, or the men who fished the waters of Panawampskek Bay and beyond, or those that tilled the soil, a man's beard was his trademark and still is today. Using the natural ingredients available to them at the time they created an unction (balm) that has passed the test of time.  Nothing beats a combination of pine resin and beeswax for shaping and hold and sunflower oil, cedar wood oil, and rosemary for moisturizing a man's beard. Today they call it a beard balm or a beard wax or a beard ointment but back in the day it was called a beard unction. There is new stuff available but if it ain't broke, why fix it?
