JLPT N4・N5 Kanji
This book does exactly what it says on the tin – teaches you the necessary kanji for the N5 and N4 level Japanese Language Proficiency Tests. However, rather than structuring the book around the two levels of test, it groups the kanji together into topics and themes which relate to everyday life in Japan — such as food, shopping, dating, part-time jobs, and illness. This gives this book a much more practical approach, allowing you to learn the kanji needed to help you with your life in Japan as a priority, and having the knowledge of that kanji to pass the N5 and N4 tests as a secondary bonus. Each unit starts a set of vocabulary that uses the kanji introduced in the unit with English translations. It then introduces the kanji, one by one, with very clear instructions on how to write it with the strokes, the readings of the kanji, and some vocabulary examples using the kanji (this time with English, Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese translations), plus some example sentences using such vocabulary. At the end of each unit, there are some review questions to check your reading and understanding of the kanji of the unit. There are also lots of illustrations throughout the whole book to help you not get bogged down too much in text. This is a very good book that takes a practical approach to kanji learning, and it is highly recommended for N5 or N4 level learners.
