Common Rush is a common and useful species. It is excellent for erosion control in wet areas. It is a major food source for waterfowl, songbirds and small mammals. Provides habitat for amphibians and a spawning areas for fish. Its rhizomatous nature, nitrogen fixing capabilities, dense root system along with its ability to support numerous beneficial bacteria, make it well suited for wastewater treatment applications. Found throughout the United States and Canada. How To Plant Common Rush Seeds: Direct sow seeds into prepared soil in late fall once soil temps are below 50 degrees (usually mid to late November). Can also be planted in winter during natural freeze / thaw cycles and in early spring. Plant shallow, no deeper than 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and lightly rake to work seed in. Plant in full sun.
