The woodworker is Mr. Tatsuya Kuzumi, a traditional craftsman of Yamanaka-nuri lacquer ware, and the elaborate hand-hewn joint between the lid and the body is exquisitely finished. On the outside of the body, platinum, a rare metal, is applied to the grain of the zelkova tree using the maki-e technique. It is a supreme gem.
