They called her “Moses” for leading enslaved people to freedom. But Harriet Tubman fought the institution of slavery well beyond her role as conductor for the Underground Railroad. As a soldier and spy for the Union Army during the Civil War, Tubman led several groups of long range scouts, feeding key terrain intel to union generals. In the post-war era Harriet Tubman was an active participatnt in the struggle for woman's suffrage. She died a century ago with full military honors surrounded by loved ones at approximately 91 years of age. Her tombstone reads: “There was one of two things I had a right to: liberty and death.
