It is the successor to the no longer in production EE series, R series, & original L series units that were developed for the professional jewelry stone setter. Stone setters work at low speeds, and need high-torque motors that won't bog down under load. The Foredom LX series motors use different speed controls than the Foredom SR. The Foredom LX-LXH series, like the Foredom TX-TXH series, are permanent magnet ball bearing motors that run on DC current.
