Lincoln's Journey Blank Greeting Card by David Hinds
Whimsy meets graffiti in this painting of Abraham Lincoln. This is an artwork I completed in a art residency project conducted by UIS from 2021-2022. Lincoln's Legacy was the focus of the study and artworks by 20 chosen artist residing in Illinois. The completed artworks will be exhibited at local sites, including the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. The artwork is a colorful mix of words, shapes, and symbols portraying things in Lincoln's life, all surrounding a funky image of the man himself. In the background running horizontally are the words of Lincoln's farewell speech given to the people of Springfield on February 11, 1861. The piece is set in a large stepped framework, which at the time of this posting is being shown at a local gallery with viewers writing a word or two of their own thoughts of Lincoln. On the stepped "risers" at the base of the frame I have incorporated a quote often attributed to Lincoln, "Whatever you are, be a good one". This quote or at leas
