Soda Fired Bowl with Decals by Rothshank Artworks

Measures approximately 3" tall x 5" in diameter. Handmade by Justin Rothshank of Rothshank Artworks in Goshen, Indiana. This bowl is made of earthenware clay, porcelain glaze, and decal transferred images. These pieces represent nearly 15 years of research in firing earthenware in atmospheric kilns. This research culminated in 2020 with the release of my book, "Low Fire Soda", which covers many of these methods and process in depth. Many surface variations exist on this pottery which I find interesting and fun. I often add sand, small pieces of feldspar, or other additives to create textures within the clay. I also dip each piece in a porcelain slip to add contrast between the dark clay, and the light color of slip. These added variations can cause surface cracks, textures, and other unexpected outcomes. This is what I'm seeking. Sometimes these surfaces aren't appealing to everyone. If that's the case, you may enjoy some of my other pieces from different collections of work. Microwave
