One of the farms he frequently visited was Zhou Zhu Yuan farm high in the mountains of Alishan, a region traditionally famous for Tea production. At the farm two varieties were growing. Typica, and another unknown variety that at the time we simply called 'Sumatra' on the assumption I may have been some type of hybrid variety introduced from Indonesia. A couple years ago farm owner Fang Cheng-lun sent samples of these trees for genetic testing and the origin was revealed. SL34!SL34 is a selection made by Scott Laboratories in Kenya in the 1930's and is one of primary var
