Vacheron Constantin, Ref 6456 Cal K1001 Ultra-Thin and Elegant, Manual Wind Circa 1960s
This is a rare ultra-thin Vacheron Constantin manual winding dress watch made in yellow gold. The watch features a brilliant silver dial with a radiant brushed finish. The dial is accented with a gold inner ring chapter that compliments beautifully the simple stick markers. A thin black compass-like cross hatch completes the distinctly 60s look of this watch. The watch is 34mm in diameter and only 6.6 mm in total width. The design is pure 60s: whereas the 1950s cases were beefy, and the 1970s designs were flamboyant, the 1960s were a period of simple elegance – think of the Beatles slim cut suits and skinny ties. Two famous calibers in five bridges, the sub-seconds K1001 and the center-seconds K1002 formed the basis of Vacheron & Constantin’s reputation in the 1950s and 60s. These incredibly elegant movements were matched only by the 12 ligne hand-winds of Patek Philippe, and experts classify the 1001/2 to be among the very finest indirect center-seconds hand-winds ever produced.
