Description Malayer rugs were woven in and around the small town of Malayer, located in-between larger northwestern Iranian (Persian) cities of Hamadan and Arak. While they feature characteristics consistent with other Hamadan province styles – single-wefted construction, wool and cotton construction – Malayer carpets reflect the mixing pot of their influences from nearby rug-making cities. Varied designs can include striking anchored medallion motifs, or quiet repeating patterns paired with richly detailed borders. Such village-constructed rugs are most often found in runner, scatter rug, and gallery sizes. Larger room-sized rugs were likely woven on commission. Malayers’ soft coloration and charm have made them a recently beloved choice for designers and homeowners alike. Pattern, color variation, and signs of wear with vintage items is normal. If you have specific questions about wear or colors, email hello[at]passerinehome[dot]com or call us to discuss this rug in more detail. We recommend using rug pads to extend the life of all Passerine rugs. Add a custom-sized rug pad to your order using order add-on the drop down above.
