Brazilian amethyst is a high-quality variety of quartz known for its deep purple to violet hues, often with rich saturation and clarity. Found primarily in the southern states of Brazil, especially Rio Grande do Sul, it forms in large geodes within volcanic rock. Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz often used in jewelry. The name comes from the Ancient Greek for not intoxicated, a reference to the belief that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. The ancient Greeks wore amethyst and made drinking vessels decorated with it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication.
