This is a cultivar known as 'Chocolate Drop', so named for the large oval chocolate brown spine shields along the margins of the 4-angled stems. Spine shields are pinkish-rose when new, turning to chocolate brown with age. Responds well to warmth, with its active growth period in the late spring and summer months. Euphobia ingens, native to Rhodesia, and Natal, forms a giant candelabra specimen to 30′ in height. The 5-angled dark greens stems have wavy margins, and branch readily to form an arborescent plant that is excellent for landscapes or patio planters.
