Wicker Park, Chicago Ill. - 1868 In late 1868, the Chicago Board of Public Works announced the desire to build a park "lying west of Milwaukee avenue and south of North avenue. The grounds are of considerable capacity and are laid out in a tasteful and attractive manner as a park." Throughout the next 140 years Wicker Park fielded teams for every major organized sport in the city...and even some not so major sports. The Wicker Park Indoor Baseball team happened to be one of the most dominant teams of the early 1900’s, event besting the famous Spalding team backed by the best sports equipment money could buy.
