Artist's Insights: This is one for the frustrated woman, one who isn’t going to wait around for archaic men to give them a seat at the table. Stylistically, it’s reminiscent of Roy Lichtenstein’s “in the car”. A lot of Roy’s art involved elevated depictions of what women were expected to be at the time, which was visually captivating, but not much else. The women I envision are beautiful, but with twice as much substance. They dress in vintage Mugler, fashion that pushed the female form past being enhanced; it bordered on transformation. Confident in their femininity, they don’t obscure it to make men more comfortable, they weaponize it! Women are often expected to present more masculine to command a man’s respect, but that implies that weakness lies in being women; an idea that should be crushed beneath patent fuchsia pumps.
