This is an original 1721 black and white copper engraving of "Catharina Renata Ertzherzogin zu Österreich." This is a portrait of Archduchess Catherine Renata of Austria, daughter of Archduke Charles II of Austria and Maria Anna of Bavaria and member of the House of Habsburg. Negotiations for her marriage to Ranuccio I Farnese, Duke of Parma were terminated when Catherine Renata suddenly died in 1599 at the age of twenty-three. The portrait is surrounded by a wonderful decorative motif mimicking a frame set against an etched background. The design features two cherubs flanking an urn that rests upon a stylized and grotesque face at the top of the print and a cascading grape vine design framing the remainder of the portrait, uniting at the bottom center of the print. CONDITIONThis 290+ year old Item is rated Near Mint / Very Fine+. No creases. No natural defects. No surface rub.No tears. No water damage. Please note: There is a plate impression bordering the image in this print.
