This is an original 1721 black and white copper engraving of "Maria Magdalena Ertz Herzogin zu Österreich, Gemahlin Cosmo II Gross Hertz zu Florentz." This is a portrait of Maria Maddalena of Austria, daughter of Charles II, Archduke of Inner Austria and his wife Maria Anna of Bavaria; Grand Duchess of Tuscany as wife of Cosimo de' Medici, Grand Prince of Tuscany and Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici; and acting Regent during her son, Grand Duke Ferinando's, childhood. The portrait is framed by a wonderful decorative motif featuring a shell and botanical design at the top of the image with columns flanking the portrait. This piece is accompanied by the original German biographical text printed on a separate sheet and featuring a decorative drop cap, vignette and and tailpiece.
