This is an original 1722 black and white copper engraving of "Don Balthasar Marradas," a Spanish nobleman, imperial field marshal during the Thirty Years' War, and the governor of Bohemia. Though he lacked any true military success, in 1621 he was raised to the rank of an imperial count and provided with land, becoming a field marshal in 1626 and then a Lieutenant General in 1627. The portrait is surrounded by a wonderful decorative motif featuring a stylized lion at the bottom of the print as well as a laurel-leaf crown at the top of the print.
