"Destruction of the Alexandra Palace, June 9, 1873" This is an original 1873 black and white in-text wood engraving of illustrations that depict the destruction of the Alexandra Palace, (also The People's Palace or Ally Pally), in Alexandra Park, London, England, United Kingdom during the fire that occurred on June 9, 1873, ( a mere sixteen days after its grand opening on May 24th), during the Victorian era. At least three members of the staff were killed in the blaze, and only the outer walls of the palace survived the inferno. The palace was quickly rebuilt however, and was reopened on May 1, 1875. CONDITIONThis 140+ year old Item is rated Very Fine ++. Moderate aging throughout. Light creasing. There is light bleedthrough on this piece from the verso.
