This is a rare original 1875 color chromolithograph that portrays some of the gorgeous frescos and designs painted by famous Renaissance artist Raphael, which are located in the Vatican. On the left are the four seasons, on the right are the three Moirai, or Fates, playing with some poor mortal's thread of life. They were known as Clotho (the Spinner, who created each thread), Lachesis (the Drawer of Lots, who measured each thread), and Atrophos (the Unturnable, who cut each thread at the end of a mortal's life). A unique feature of this illustration, which may be difficult to see in the digital image, is the use of gold and silver ink that not only shimmers when it catches the light but also accentuates some of the finer details which might otherwise be missed.CONDITIONThis 136+ year old Item is rated Near Mint / Very Fine.
