This is an original 1883 black and white wood engraving of the ancient Aztec calendar stone. This monolithic sculpture that was excavated while the Cathedral was being repaired. It is around 12 feet across and weighs about 24 tons. There are many theories about what the stone was used for, but they believe it was most likely used as a ceremonial basin or ritual altar for gladiatorial sacrifices.
