This is an original 1887 black and white wood engraving of the gate of the Castle of Hennebon in France. This castle headed by Joanna of Flanders also known as Jeanne la Flamme. As she was preparing Hennebon for a siege, she asked King Edward III for help. Edward wanted the French crown, so with hopes of gaining alliances with Brittany, he accepted. During the raid she burned down the enemies supplies and tents giving her the name of Jeanne la Flamme. CONDITIONThis 124+ year old Item is rated Very Fine ++. Light aging throughout. No creases.
