This is an original 1889 black and white wood engraving of the Dogana di Mare (Sea Customs Post) in the city of Venice, Italy (on the right side of the image). This was the place where arriving cargo ships would be inspected by customs officials. It is located at the entrance to the Grand Canal across for St. Mark's Square. The artwork in this print was originally created by Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851) who was a Romantic landscape painter, watercolorist, and printmaker. He was born in England and is known as "the painter of light." Many consider his artwork to be the preface to the art movement known as Impressionism.CONDITIONThis 122+ year old Item is rated Near Mint / Very Fine. Light aging throughout. No creases.
