"The Columbian Fountain." This is an original 1893 halftone print of the Columbian Fountain at the 1893 Chicago's Worlds Fair. Frederick MacMonnies designed and constructed the central fountain at the Fair, for $48,000. The fountain shows Columbia sitting on the Barge of State, heralded by Fame at the prow, oared by the Arts and Industries, guided by Time at the helm, and drawn by the sea-horses of Commerce. The rowers on the right are Music, Architecture, Sculpture and Painting; on the left, Agriculture, Science, Industry and Commerce. (Please note that, typical of halftone prints, there is printing on the reverse.) Period Paper has obtained a wonderful set of halftone prints of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, also known as the World Columbian Exposition. This original collection of the fair's many architectural, artistic, mechanical, agricultural, industrial, archeological, ethnological, historical, and scenic attractions was printed in 1893.
