Columbus Taking Posession. This is an original 1894 halftone print showing a Christopher Columbus tribute statue, appropriate in the fact the exposition is essentially a commemoration of Columbus' Discovery of the New World. This statue named the Court of Honor, represents the Genoese discoverer making his grand entrance into the New World. In Columbus' left hand waves the banner of Spain. Situated behind the commemorative statue is the Columbian Arch, which is the gateway into the White City. This statue, which sits at the Eastern entrance to the Administration Building, was done by sculptor Mary T. Lawrence.
