1893 Print Vienna Austria Midway Plaisance Chapel Tower John Botzer Chicago FAR2
This is an ultra-rare original 1893 rear color cover from the Chicago "The Inter Ocean" Illustrated Supplement showing an image of Old Vienna at the Exposition. Shown is John Botzer's Place, the chapel, the tower and the gateway. The exhibit was offered on the Midway Plaisance, the center of entertainment and amusement at the fair. The Austrian Village occupied a large space and was a reproduction of a portion of Vienna known as 'Der Graben.' The village offered 36 buildings in total, and was located in a space of 195 by 590 feet. Also shown in the village was a collection of antique Greek portraits and artwork which was valued at the time for several hundred thousand dollars. Period Paper has obtained arguably one of the most rare, exclusive collections of original color images of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair (The World's Columbian Exposition).
