This is an original 1896 black and white halftone print of a waypoint on the the Nakasendo in Fukushima. The Nakasendo (Kisokaido) translates to "central mountain route" as it was one of two important routes from Kyoto to Edo (Tokyo) used in the Edo Period, the other being the Tokaido. However, while the Tokaido went along the Eastern coastline of the island Honshu, the Nakasendo traversed the Hida Mountains through central Honshu. Fukushima was one of the last stops along the way to Old Edo.CONDITIONThis 115+ year old Item is rated Very Fine ++. No creases. No natural defects. No surface rub.No tears. No water damage.
