This is an original 1903 halftone print of a mountaintop view of the Monastery of St. Johns of Ryle, which is located just outside of Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria. At the time, this monastery was mired in controversy since American missionaries accused the monks of abduction causing a wide search of the holy grounds by the government of Sofia.
