1907 Ad Antique Winton Motor Carriage Mark Twain Models - ORIGINAL CL4
This is an original 1907 black and white print ad for The Winton Motor Carriage Company of Cleveland, Ohio. The company, founded in 1897 by Cleveland bicycle manufacturer Alexander Winton, as well as Geo. H. Brown and Thos. W. Henderson, produced and sold the first American-Made Gasoline-Powered Automobile. To promote his automobile line, Winton used one of his vehicles to drive from Cleveland to New York and back. While the Winton automobiles started around $1,000, they quickly rose in price after Winton's promotional drives. Unable to produce similar quality at a lesser price, however, Winton could not keep up with Henry Ford's automobile mass-production; thus causing Winton to shut down the company in 1924.
