James Abbott McNeill Whistler James Abbott McNeill Whistler (1834-1903) was a native of Lowell, Massachusetts, prior to relocating to London and France. Whistler was known for his paintings, graphic art design, mosaics, Chiaroscuro, printmaking and Plein Air Painting, as well as his tonalism, luminism and impressionism styles.
