This is an original 1920 World War I sepia rotogravure of a German shell exploding over the position occupied by Battery C at Fremenil in the Toul Sector of the 149th F. A., who are engaging the enemy. Another image shows "The Blue Print Era," where Secretary of War Newton Baker and General John J. Pershing inspect and review the train depot project at St. Nazaire while seated on a military observation car. The war department leaders engaged railway system engineer General W. W. Atterbury to aid in the project. The final image shows the men behind the war, including Secretary of War Newton Baker, General John J. Pershing, U. S. Ambassador to France William G. Sharp, Major General W. M. Black, Captain de Marenches of the French Army, Colonel Carl Boyd, Lieutenant Colonel M L. Brett, Colonel Fox Conner, Commander R. D. White and Ralph A. Hayes.
