This is an original 1921 black and white halftone print of a portrait of Mrs. Charles Burnett wearing a 15th Century Japanese Court costume. This sengoku period garb supposedly consisted of twelve layers called the Juni-hitoe, in reality it was more along the lines of eight. It was mainly layers of robes and kimono more appropriately called karaginu-mo. Her teeth would be blacked out and her face painted over with white makeup with small, designed points for the lips and two black dots to supplant the eyebrows. This sort of dress was typical of the sengoku period kuge, or aristocratic class.CONDITIONThis 90+ year old Item is rated Near Mint / Very Fine. No creases.
